Who we are and what we do
We are Chemion, a wholly owned subsidiary of CURRENTA GmbH & Co. OHG – as is Tectrion. Together, we form the CURRENTA Group, a company with around 5,400 employees and over 100 years of experience in the chemical industry. The group is owned by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management, the asset management arm of the Macquarie Group.
Originally part of the Bayer Group, we have developed from an internal service provider into a high-performance group of specialised companies. Since 2001, we have been serving our customers as an independent site logistics provider and specialist in the handling of hazardous goods and substances. This makes Chemion a powerful partner, especially for companies in the chemical and chemical-related industries.
Our history
GATE: automated truck handling at CHEMPARK
Chemion has introduced the new ITLM system (Integrated Transport and Loading Point Management). It replaces the previous process and ensures significantly shorter waiting and throughput times thanks to AI-supported number plate recognition, digital check-in and check-out, and automated document creation.
Founding of Chemion
On 1 July 2001, Chemion Logistik GmbH is formed from parts of the Bayer Group’s ‘Central Logistics’ division and other logistics facilities belonging to Bayer’s business areas.
Logistics facility inaugurated
Storage and filling of 250,000 tonnes of Makrolon® granulate per year possible. Investment of 30 million euros.
New Sample Service Centre
Here, product samples are professionally filled, stored, packaged, labelled and shipped via the entire transport chain in accordance with customer orders.
Innovation in industrial trucks
An explosion-proof front loader initiated by Chemion and developed in collaboration with forklift manufacturer Still and Miretti, a converter for explosion-proof equipment.
Inauguration of trimodal container terminal
In keeping with Chemion tradition, we give our (container) cranes names. And Wolfgang is the new arrival at the Leverkusen Chemical Park.
Brand new!
Chemion commissions another container storage facility in Leverkusen, relying on wireless transmission via RFID for unambiguous container identification. 650 additional spaces for empty, uncleaned tank containers and boxes.
5 years of Chemion Logistics
When it commenced business operations in 2001, Chemion realigned its organisational structure and made extensive investments. Around €11 million was invested in new container technology and terminals alone. After five years, Chemion is reporting positive results.
First container terminal at the Dormagen site
The 7,000 m² bimodal facility is specially designed for the storage of hazardous materials and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The terminal offers 360 parking spaces for 20′ box and tank containers.
International certification
Chemion is the first company in the chemical industry in Europe to receive the ‘Workplace Integration Management’ (BEM) certificate from the Institute for Quality Assurance in Prevention and Rehabilitation (IQPR) and confirmation that ‘Chemion Integration Management’ (ChEM) complies with legal requirements.
Use of the ‘robogrind’
The industrial robot ‘robogrind’ grinds and polishes the inner walls of tank containers that show signs of corrosion after storing chemical substances with millimetre precision. CHEMPARK Leverkusen is one of two locations in Germany. It is used at 18 locations worldwide.
Successful partnership
STILL GmbH’s 500,000th counterbalance forklift truck was ceremoniously handed over to Chemion. Both companies are united above all by their high standards of quality and safety. A total of 770 STILL forklift trucks are now in use at Chemion.
New external warehouses
Chemion commissions additional external warehouses in Krefeld and Monheim am Rhein.
New container terminal
To support the growth of manufacturing companies, Chemion is expanding its storage capacity in Dormagen: space for around 1,000 freight and tank containers is being created in the north-western part of CHEMPARK on an area of around 15,000 m².
Chemion celebrates its 20th anniversary
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not possible to hold a large anniversary celebration. Instead, employees sent a strong message of solidarity with a digital participatory campaign under the motto ‘Strong together’.
Welcome to the Chemion team
Chemion is taking over the areas of materials management, inventory and vehicle fleet management from its sister company Tectrion. This integration strengthens Chemion’s position as a comprehensive logistics and service partner at CHEMPARK.
Chemion strengthens its position as Covestro's 3PL partner
Chemion is taking on extensive logistics services as a third-party logistics provider (3PL) at the Krefeld-Uerdingen site. This includes managing the silo farms, filling operations and extended warehousing activities. The partnership underscores Chemion’s role as a strategic 3PL service provider for complex production and site logistics.

Central Mail Distribution Center

Warehousing & Integrated Logistics Solutions
In a complex supply chain, reliable storage and efficient handling of materials and products are crucial for smooth operations. With our warehousing solutions, we not only offer secure storage capacity for general cargo, hazardous materials, and sensitive products, but also a direct connection to your production processes.
Our integrated logistics services go far beyond traditional warehousing: we take care of order picking, packaging, inventory management, and value-added services such as labeling and palletizing.
